I’m Henry Faarup Humbert — Cofounder & CEO of Ciudad Porta Norte, the largest walkable solarpunk town in Panama City.

We sell lots to developers, institutions, and businesses, and build the roads and public spaces that make a great neighborhood. Think of it as city-building from the ground up: master planning, infrastructure, and a vision for how people should live.

I was born and raised in Panama City. I studied economics at the University of Texas at Austin (2012), came back home, and spent a few years working across industries — including at Panama’s only venture capital firm, where I got obsessed with startups, Y Combinator, and the founder mindset.

But I realized Panama didn’t need more VCs. It needed more builders. So in 2014, I co-founded Porta Norte.

A decade in, the project has become something I never fully anticipated — a living experiment in walkable, sustainable urbanism at a scale that matters. Building a town teaches you everything: finance, design, politics, patience, and the compounding nature of good decisions.

That last point — compounding — also drives my growing interest in investing. I’m a student of Berkshire Hathaway, value investing, and the long game. I’ve been to the Berkshire Annual Meeting in Omaha in 2025 and 2026, and came back more convinced that the principles of patient capital apply to cities just as much as they do to stocks.

I write here in English and Spanish about urbanism, entrepreneurship, investing, philosophy, books, and the art of building something that lasts. This is my intellectual workspace — a place to clarify my thoughts and practice the craft of writing.

Vendemos lotes a desarrolladores, instituciones y negocios, y construimos las calles y espacios públicos que hacen un gran barrio. Es construir ciudad desde cero: planificación maestra, infraestructura y una visión de cómo deben vivir las personas.

Nací y me crié en la Ciudad de Panamá. Estudié economía en la Universidad de Texas en Austin (2012), regresé y trabajé en varias industrias — incluyendo la única firma de capital de riesgo de Panamá, donde me obsesioné con las startups, Y Combinator y la mentalidad de fundador.

Pero me di cuenta de que Panamá no necesitaba más VCs. Necesitaba más constructores. Así que en 2014 cofundé Porta Norte.

Una década después, el proyecto se convirtió en algo que no anticipé del todo — un experimento vivo de urbanismo caminable y sostenible a una escala que importa. Construir un pueblo te enseña todo: finanzas, diseño, política, paciencia y la naturaleza compuesta de las buenas decisiones.

Ese último punto — el interés compuesto — también impulsa mi interés en las inversiones. Soy estudiante de Berkshire Hathaway, la inversión en valor y el juego a largo plazo. Fui a la reunión anual de Berkshire en Omaha en 2025 y 2026, y regresé más convencido de que los principios del capital paciente aplican tanto a las ciudades como a las acciones.

Escribo aquí en español e inglés sobre urbanismo, emprendimiento, inversiones, filosofía, libros y el arte de construir algo que perdure. Este es mi espacio intelectual — un lugar para aclarar mis ideas y practicar el oficio de escribir.
